Iceland/Norwegian Fjords Cruise - Itinerary

Trondheim, NorwaySail through the rugged beauty unique to Iceland and Norway.  Including a call in Belfast with a taste of Northern Ireland, you will be sailing to the top of the world.  Your adventure begins in Southampton, England, an ancient and historic port that is now a busy commercial and industrial center.  Nearby lies the New Forest, one of Britain’s best preserved woodland areas, which was originally set aside as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror in the 11th century.

 

Travel to Bergen, Norway, where you may view the “Gateway to the Fjords” from atop Mount Floyen.  In Norway’s “Royal Town” of Trondheim where Norwegian kings are crowned, visit the Gothic-style Nidaros Cathedral and the Ringve Museum of Musical Instruments.  Sailing on to Iceland, Akureyri is known as the “Green Town” because of its lush botanical gardens and forest within the city limits.  Reykjavik is the world’s most northerly capital and is home to the mineral-rich geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon.  Your final stop is Belfast, capital of Northern Ireland, where you may choose to tour the Harland & Wolff Shipyard, birthplace of the ill-fated Titanic, prior to returning to Southampton.

This ancient and historic port is now a busy commercial and industrial center and still has part of its old town walls. Adjacent to the harbor is the New Forest, one of Britain’s best preserved woodland areas, which has wild ponies and an incredible variety of birds. It was originally set aside as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror in the 11th century.

 

Bergen, Norway
From atop Mount Floyen, view the “Gateway to the Fjords,” with its skyline of red-tiled roofs nestled in the harbor, or visit Troldhaugen, the home of famous composer Edvard Grieg.

 

Hellesylt, Norway
Home of Europe ’s deepest lake, Hellesylt boasts thunderous waterfalls and picturesque fruit orchards.

 

Geiranger, Norway
Nestled at the edge of the Geirangerfjord, home of the Seven Sisters waterfalls, you’ll find fantastic views from famous Mount Dalsnibba. Or venture to the unique mountain farm of Herdal.

 

Trondheim, Norway
Founded in AD 997, Trondheim is the principal city in north-central Norway. It is known as the “Royal Town” because Norwegian kings are crowned in the cathedral. Visit the Gothic-style Nidaros Cathedral and the Ringve Museum of Musical Instruments. Or enjoy a ride on the Thamshavn Railway.

 

Akureyri, Iceland
Due to its volcanic history and the lava lakes and waterfalls all around, Iceland ’s second city boasts lush botanical gardens and a forest within city limits, earning it the name “Green Town.”

 

Reykjavik, Iceland
The world’s most northerly capital is home to a wealth of art galleries and theatres. Visit the mineral-rich geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon or the famous Gullfoss Waterfall.

 

Belfast, Ireland
The capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast is a modern city situated in a district of mountains, loughs and rivers. Explore Donegall Square, where you’ll find the Scottish Provident Building and the Belfast City Hall. Or join an optional tour to the Harland & Wolff Shipyard, birthplace of the ill-fated liner Titanic.
